Gloria J. Burgess is a writer, speaker, poet, and activist. Her focus is social transformation through leadership, spirituality, arts, and education. As CEO of Jazz International and Executive director of The Lift Every Voice Foundation, she leads both organizations to inspire, develop, and equip leaders throughout the world.
Gloria holds a PhD from the University of Southern California and Distinguished Scholar Achievement Awards from the University of Michigan, and she is a Cave Canem Poetry Fellow, a prestigious collective of poets and writers of the African diaspora.
She has written eight books, including Flawless Leadership, Dare to Wear Your Soul on the Outside, Legacy Living, and Pass It On!, her beautifully illustrated book about her father’s life-changing friendship with Nobel Laureate William Faulkner.
A former executive and senior leader in IT and human services, Gloria is now a speaker and thought partner. She has presented to and advised tens of thousands of people in diverse contexts, including Microsoft, Starbucks, AT&T, Boeing, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Girl Scouts of America, Kenya’s Parliament, Paraguay’s Office of the President, and the South African Embassy. She is also a professor in executive leadership at the University of Washington, Seattle University, and University of Southern California.
Gloria lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with her husband, John.
